Welcome from the Lodge Boss Team

Welcome to Lodge Boss! We’re glad you’re here. Whether you’re dealing with a major home repair, planning a renovation, or just trying to figure out what to expect when hiring a contractor, you’re in the right place.

At just 26 years old, I bought a 1911 Colonial-style home in New England. I moved in with nothing but a duffel bag and quickly realized I was in way over my head. The house needed serious work, and over the years, I’ve tackled everything from removing decades-old wallpaper to remodeling the kitchen and bathrooms, replacing major systems like the furnace and hot water heater, installing split-unit air conditioning, upgrading gutters, adding a French drain, and handling countless other repairs.

Some of the work I did myself. A lot of it, I didn’t—because old homes come with challenges that require real expertise. That meant hiring professionals, and let’s just say… not every experience was a good one. I’ve worked with great contractors and terrible ones, dealt with reliable companies and those that overpromised and underdelivered. Expectations weren’t always clear, which led to delays, budget overruns, and a lot of lessons learned the hard way.

That’s why I created Lodge Boss. We can’t make every decision work out perfectly for you (though we sure wish we could), but we will give you the key considerations that will help you feel in control—so you can make the best decisions for your home, your bank account, and your family. This blog isn’t about DIY projects; it’s about understanding what to expect when hiring contractors, managing renovation costs, avoiding common pitfalls, and getting the results you actually want.

Because when it comes to home repairs and renovations, the biggest mistakes aren’t just made with a hammer—they’re made in the decisions leading up to the work. Lodge Boss is here to help you get those decisions right.

Thanks for being here, and welcome to the Lodge Boss community. We’re excited to share this journey with you, and we look forward to helping you make confident, informed decisions about your home…or at least better decisions than we did. Let’s make homeownership a little easier—together.
